Which toys are appropriate before writing begins?

    1. Building Blocks: As toddlers conduct and stack the blocks, playing with building blocks develops kids’ hand-eye coordination and fine motor abilities.
    2. Modeling versus Play-Doh Play-Doh or clay: Squishing, rolling, and sculpting these materials helps build hand strength and prepare the hand for writing.
    3. Puzzles: Solving puzzles improves problem-solving, fine motor abilities, and hand-eye coordination.
    4. Lacing Beads: Lacing beads together helps with fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
    5. Pegboards and Pegs: Hand dexterity can be improved by manipulating pegs and arranging them on a pegboard.
    6. Magnetic Drawing Board: Without the use of paper or pencils, kids can practice writing and drawing by using a magnetic pen on a magnetic drawing board.
    7. Books and crayons for coloring: Coloring exercises help to improve hand strength and coordination while fostering creativity.
    8. Stencils or Tracing Boards: Children can practice regulated motions and hone their fine motor skills by tracing shapes and patterns.
    9. Cutting Activities with Scissors: Using child-safe scissors to cut paper improves hand strength and control.
    10. Children can experiment with various writing techniques while having fun with color by using finger paints.
    11. Watercolor paints and brushes: Working with watercolors fosters creativity and fluid hand movements.
    12. Magna Doodle or Etch A Sketch: Without the need of paper, drawing on a Magna Doodle or Etch A Sketch promotes the development of fine motor skills.
    13. Chalk with a chalkboard: Using chalk to write or draw on a chalkboard is a fun and tactile pre-writing practice.

Remember that the objective is to keep these exercises entertaining and interesting while subtly honing the writing skills that are required. Children build hand strength, coordination, and other necessary motor skills while they play with these toys, which will help them when they begin writing more officially.
